Before You Sell: See Your Home with Fresh Eyes in 5 Minutes
THE SELLER’S WALKTHROUGH · NEPA
Open the door.
See your home with fresh eyes.
Before getting your home ready for photos or showings, take this five-minute walkthrough. Bring your phone and one question: what needs attention first?
When you live in a home, you stop noticing certain details: shoes by the entrance, a burned-out bulb, or that piece of furniture narrowing the walkway. Today, take a brief pause to look at your property as if you were arriving for the first time.
You don’t need to fix everything today. The goal is to finish with three concrete actions.
01 / THE ARRIVAL · ONE MINUTE
Start before you step inside
Approach your home along the path a visitor would take. Look at the door, the entrance, and the lighting. Are objects blocking the way? Have leaves piled up? Does anything need cleaning?
Your action: Take a photo of the entrance and choose one detail you can tidy or clean.
02 / THE WALKTHROUGH · TWO MINUTES
Make each space easy to understand
Walk from the entrance to the living room and kitchen. Notice the pathways between furniture and the surfaces around you. If a room serves several purposes, consider how to show its main use more clearly.
Open the curtains where appropriate and check the lights. Aim for an accurate presentation of your home: photos should help people understand the space.
Your action: Clear one surface and remove one object that interrupts the flow through the room.
03 / THE DETAILS · TWO MINUTES
Note what needs follow-up
Look at doors, handles, and small maintenance details. Separate cleaning tasks from items that need a professional’s attention. If you notice a stain, dampness, or a persistent odor, make a note to investigate the cause; covering it with paint or fragrance will not solve the problem.
Your action: Write down one maintenance question to discuss with the appropriate professional.
Your checklist for today
□ One detail at the entrance.
□ One space you can clear.
□ One maintenance question.
Take a before-and-after photo from the same spot. Compare what changed and what still needs attention.
This exercise is a starting point for preparing your home’s presentation. Every property needs its own plan; a brief walkthrough does not replace a professional evaluation.
